Background Information

As part of the Burntwood Init Project, the results of the survey that was carried out earlier this year show that children and young people have little to do at the weekend.  As a result three partners got together to design Saturday Init.  25K was secured from Sport England to support this 2 year winter project which will run September - March 2008/09 & 2009/10.

The project will be delivered in partnership by Lichfield District Council Staffordshire County Council's Youth Service and the Beacon Community Church.  The project will also be supported by Staffordshire Police and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue.

It is intended that the project will provide the following sport and recreation opportunities for  young people:

Friday evenings  6.00pm - 8.00pm at the Burntwood Youth Club

Saturday mornings  10.00am -11.00am at Redwood Park

Saturday evenings  6.00pm - 9.00pm at Burntwood Leisure Centre

Friday Evenings at Burntwood Youth Centre
The youth club in Chasetown will act as a 'drop in' centre for young people who wish to get involved with multi-sports, such as basketball, table tennis, football etc under qualified supervision. There will also be opportunities for young people to gather, socialise and share social / educational information in a safe environment.

Saturday Mornings at Redwood Park
The Beacon Community Church, based at Redwood Park in
Chase Terrace will be offering  basketball coaching on their new
Multi-Usage-Games-Area.

Saturday Evenings at Burntwood Leisure Centre
Burntwood Leisure Centre will offer facilities on a Saturday evening 6pm - 9pm during the winter months and will provide Basketball, Football, Trampolining, Table Tennis, Badminton, squash, racquetball, street dance and Aerobics for young people who wish to play and develop their skills in sport. Qualified coaches will be present to support this process. Swimming passes will also be offered to entice young people to take advantage of free exercise during other times of the week which will form part of their membership package to the leisure centre.

In order to take part in this scheme, children and young people MUST become members.

To become a member, obtain an application form from either Burntwood Leisure Centre or Burntwood  Youth Club, fill out the details and get a signature from a parent or guardian. Membership is FREE of charge. However, any child / young person attending Burntwood Leisure Centre on a Saturday evening will be charged £2 per visit. This will entitle them to take part in all activities on offer between 6.00pm - 9.00pm.
