The UK Youth Parliament would like to thank you for all your support over the past 12 months. It has been another great year for us and here are some of the highlights from 2009...
· Members of Youth Parliament made history by debating in the House of Commons chamber – the first time anyone other than MPs have debated in the Commons. · Over 500,000 young people voted in UK Youth Parliament elections. · Thousands of young people have been engaged with our campaigning work on abolishing tuition fees, cheaper bus fares for young people and improved political education. · Over 75,000 comments were posted on our online forums. · The UKYP and BT Seen and Heard Awards celebrated the positive role young people play in their communities.
|
· We had 1,500 press mentions and MYPs appeared everywhere from BBC Breakfast, to the Times to Channel 4 News.
· 480 opportunities for young people to shadow a government minister have been created as part of our work with The Youth of Today. · Over 400 young people, youth workers and decision makers attended UK Youth Parliament's 9th Annual Sitting at the University of Kent to develop campaigns and create a new manifesto. · The MWH Awards celebrated the work of Members of Youth Parliament. · We launched a new DVD, Got Any Change?, featuring young people telling inspiring true stories about how they got involved in the UK Youth Parliament and what they have achieved. · We held nine events, giving young people a safe space to discuss terrorism and violent extremism.

Sincere thanks to all of our partners for making all of this possible, and massive congratulations to the many thousands of young people who are of course at the heart of all these successes. We look forward to yet more progress in 2010.
