Where is your child tonight? Campaign

Launched on 30th November at Morrison's supermarket in Burntwood, all agencies took part in the day long event giving out leaflets saying, 'Where is your child tonight?'  The purpose of the campaign was to raise awareness around tolerance levels in the community and also to engage partners and carers in taking responsibility for their young people.  The campaign aims to acknowledge that parents and carers value their children but
without supervision they may get involved with underage drinking which is potentially harmful and is linked to anti social behaviour problems in the area.  Partners also raised awareness with parents and carers around knowing where their young people are, what they are up to combined with what company they were keeping and
taking responsibility.

Flyers were distributed and discussions took place with hundreds of members of the community.  'Parenting Tips' flyers were also handed out.  Flyers and letters were also sent out to ALL students (over 2000 young people) at both high schools from the Police Anti Social Behaviour Officer telling parents and carers of the intentions to tackle
anti social behaviour and to promote Burntwood Init.  Beer mats and fridge magnets were handed out by the Burntwood Community Wardens, and banners have been displayed around the town.
More work will be planned over 2008 linking to this campaign.

Partners came together in January 2007 to work towards talking
anti social behaviour in Burntwood, predominately on Friday nights and to provide positive outcomes for young people.

The aims of the project are:

Consult with young people about what activities they would
engage in within the Burntwood district.

To engage young people in positive activities at key times.

• To educate young people by providing activities covering
  alcohol, drugs and racism issues.

The project coordinator held meetings with a large number of local agencies, including talking in the two secondary schools assemblies about the project and also visiting 4 primary schools. Drop in sessions was also given by other agencies such as Beacon Church and the Youth Offending Service.

Questionnaires were filled in within the schools, via the Youth Service mobile bus and with this support from agencies who worked with the targeted groups of people. These included T6 Youth Project, Beacon Church, Youth Offending Service, Positive Activities for Young People and Positive Futures.
